In an effort to expose animation, creative industry jobs and our own Animation Course held at the Division of Continuing Education, Sir Arthur Lewis Community college. The event took place at the Finance Administrative Center in Point Seraphine on the 23rd and 24th of October. Various tertiary institutions and career support organizations were invited to supply secondary school students with career advice and offer tertiary programs. Students from most Secondary schools were present. We were excited to see that most students flocked to our booth first after being captured by our banner and the word "animation". The students showed keen interest in what we had to offer and we hope that many will choose this path; our path, going forward in their lives. There is no specific age to start learning animation but it goes without saying that the earlier, the better. Parents and students alike were told the benefits of starting early, particularly those who want to go into a non-academic career. Benefits of starting an Animation Career are:
The Animation Certificate Programme is a partnership between Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Continuing Education (DOCE) and Malifinis Film and Animation Studies Inc (MFAS). Malfinis Studios is an appointed training center for TOONBOOM Animation Inc. TOONBOOM is an industry pioneer and leader in animation software. The Course will run for one year, at a cost of 8,500 XCD. The programme's courses include: introduction to animation, animation principles, storyboarding, scene setup, bring the story to life and a 4 month internship and Malfinis Studios where they will receive on the job training and further exposure to the industry. There are also general courses that students will have to take. Those courses being: communication studies, computer applications and Heritage Studies. As well as an elective of any course offered by DOCE. These general courses will complement the main animation course by providing students with a diverse repertoire of skills.
